The accuracy of the method of calculating turbulent reacting flows [1–3] which is based on the use of the conditional mean concentrations of the reacting components is analyzed. The effect of large-scale fluctuations of the dissipation of passive admixture concentration [4–6] on the accuracy of the equations for the conditional means is considered and the corresponding corrections are computed. In the framework of the Hromek-Lamb equations we investigate the axially symmetric vortical flow of a nonviscous incompressible liquid in both semiinfinite and infinite gaps between two coaxial circular cylinders. The investigation is carried out for two circulation and flow functions and two different Bernoulli constants which are chosen in the form of a third-order polynomial in the flow function. This makes it possible to determine the effect of the azimuthal velocity component on the flow in an axial plane with radial and axial components of the velocity. It is shown that under certain circumstances wave oscillations in the flow are possible, in agreement with the results of [1–3] which investigated the flow in an infinite tube [1], in a semiinfinite tube with simpler circulation functions and Bernoulli constants [2], and in the two-dimensional case [3]. We determine the dependence of the formation of wave perturbations on the third term of the Bernoulli constant and on the azimuthal velocity component. The Navier-Stokes equations are used to investigate hypersonic flow of carbon dioxide gas over blunt bodies with allowance for nonequilibrium development of chemical reactions and vibrational relaxation of the CO2 molecules. The problem is solved by the method of stabilization by means of an implicit difference scheme that includes the use of Newton's iterative process. The results are given of calculations of the flow field, the convective heat flux, and the frictional stresses on the surface of blunt cones with spherical noses. The influence of admixtures on the flow field and the heat fluxes is investigated. Equations are derived for the gasdynamics of a dense plasma confined by a multiple-mirror magnetic field. The limiting cases of large and small mean free paths have been analyzed earlier: 0 and k, where is the length of an individual mirror machine, 0 is the size of the mirror, and k is the mirror ratio. The present work is devoted to a study of the intermediate range of mean free paths 0 k. The emission spectrum of the boundary-layer vapor on the interval 3800–6600 Å is presented for a specimen of asbestos-filled plastic in the air-plasma flow created by an electrodeless high-frequency discharge. The temperature profile in the boundary layer has been measured in the neighborhood of the stagnation point. Flow of a liquid in collapsing pipes is of great interest for problems in the mechanics of blood circulation, since collapse can take place in many blood vessels. This effect forms the basis for a large number of diagnostic and therapeutic methods, and also for methods of investigating the system of blood circulation. Consequently the mechanics of collapsing pipes has been studied intensively of late [1], but the available studies are far from exhausting the theoretical or the applied aspects of the problem. This applies also to the study of discontinuous solutions such as shock waves which describe steep fronts of opening or narrowing of a blood vessel. The most studied phenomenon is unsteady flow caused by change in the external pressure [2]. There is an explanation in [3–6] of the effect on the process of formation of discontinuities in collapsing pipes due to such factors as friction on the wall, distributed lateral outflow, the presence of a stagnant zone in the flow, and viscoelasticity of the wall. The origin of some acoustic phenomena in the arteries is connected by some with the propagation of discontinuities; these phenomena include Korotkov sounds, used in the determination of the arterial pressure of blood [1, 7]. The results are given of a calculation of laminar flow in a channel of square section and the motion of a turbulent jet from a cruciform nozzle in an ambient flow. To calculate the secondary flows, the field of the transverse velocity is decomposed into irrotational and solenoidal components. The results of the calculation of the flow in the channel are compared with the calculations of other authors and experimental data. To calculate the flow in the turbulent jet, a one-parameter turbulence model is used, and the influence of the inhomogeneity of the distribution of the longitudinal component of the velocity on the components of the Reynolds stress tensor is taken into account.
